February Income Report - 2018

This is my 21st Income Report in which I detail how much money I made online this month.

These reports are designed to show you that it is possible to make money online. I also want to use them to give myself motivation to meet targets, describe new challenges and achievements. Every month I'll post reports of my google analytics, income stats and more.

February is my favourite month of the year as it also happens to be my birthday month. I turned 28 this month and celebrated it with my friends and family. It is strange to think that I'll be thirty in two short years; I've been doing this self-employed business since I turned 21 and so much has changed since I first started out, including my vision, my projects and how I work productively.

February's focus for me was on my product Support Centre. This product was the first product I ever released on CodeCanyon and after many huge updates, it still stands on it's own legs to this day, clocking over 750 sales! This latest update included lots of new features and improvements based on user suggestions, including Custom Statuses, Revamped Client Area, New FAQ section and plenty more.

Once I had published the Support Centre update, I began working on the Social Network product. Envato has now granted some respected authors the ability to update products without having to have their files manually approved, which means I can get updates out a lot faster, especially if there are any niggling bugs that need fixing (usually I'd have to wait 5 days for them to approve the tiniest of fixes).

New Niche Project

I've started a new Niche site. A while back, I wrote a series of blog posts about making a website for a certain niche, trying to make money by amazon affiliate products. Ultimately, it failed, but I learned a huge amount from it and I've always wanted to do it again. The main issue with niche sites is that you don't get immediate results and I got frustrated with waiting for anything to happen and thus lost my motivation.

Over the last year or so, my SEO skills have improved dramatically and now I have a better understanding of trying to rank sites in google to get traffic. For the first time in it's history, Patchesoft is now making money; it's been over 3 years since I made this blog and it didn't make anything.

Armed with my new skills and fresh motivation, I have begun a new niche site. I'll dedicate just a small section of the income report to this experiment, just so I can write about my progress. Here's what I've done so far:

  • Identified a new niche
  • Purchased a domain name
  • Setup hosting, site theme and configured all the little parts of running a website
  • Written around 3-4k words so far.

My plan is to write around 15K words for this site. Once that is done, I'm going to work on link building and then write another 15k words. Slowly I'll be building this site up to have some great resources, articles that will help me rank on google.

Since my main site Patchesoft.com is now bringing in extra income, I'm going to be using this money to invest in niche site building. If this niche site is a success, I'll happily scale up my plan to more than one site. First things first, to get this site some traffic and write some really good content. I'll keep you posted on how this goes.

Cryptocurrency

I said last income report I'd be writing a few articles on Cryptocurrency. Well I managed to create three new articles, including How To Buy Ethereum, Buy Nimiq and Best Ethereum Wallets. All these articles took quite a lot of spare time and I'm now trying to get them to rank for various keywords. Since the Cryptocurrency world is quite competitive, it will take some time for these pieces to mature and start to rank. I'll also need to do some good outreach to try and get them to rank.

Other than that, not much to report on Cryptocurrency this month. The market continues to drop, going back to pre-december levels and lower. Bitcoin leads the way at around $10k.

SEO Tools

To help me with SEO, I've been working on a SEO tool for checking the Google Serps of certain keywords. These types of tools are available on the internet, but I wanted to create my own for the challenge of understanding how they work. Now that I have a working one, I'm actually considering taking it a bit further and coding some more extra features. All of this takes time however, so depending on whether or not I'm in the mood to work on it will decide the fate of this project.

I mentioned that I don't want to release lots of new products on CodeCanyon this year, so I may just focus on this tool instead. A lot of SEO Tools operate as SaaS products, meaning you pay a subscription fee to use them. I'm interested in doing something like this, but it would require sacrificing time from making products on CodeCanyon which is something I don't want to do. For now, I'll leave this as a personal project that I can work on when I'm bored.

Income Report

Source Earnings Last Month
CodeCanyon $2,078.12 +8.1% (+$156.62 )
Freelance $750.00 +19% (+$120)
Affiliate $314.83 +286.48% (+$233.37)
Total $3142.12 +19.3% (+$251.12)

A slight increase in CodeCanyon Sales for the shortest month of the year. Next month I'll be participating in the March Madness sale, so we'll see if that can help boost sales.

My Amazon Affiliate earnings soared this month! I've always said that any money I earn from affiliates I'm going to reinvest into something else; so I've now created a new niche site. If I can create a couple of these that earn well, I'll be happy!

Traffic

February Traffic report 2018

Traffic has exploded this month. Almost 90% of my traffic is now coming from organic search results, which is amazing. It just goes to show that once you start writing quality unique content you can really drive content to your site.

Time Report

Time Report Feb 2018

Not a great month for time logged. I lost a bit of time due to my birthday and other things, but really it's not good enough. Let's hope for better next month ...

Plans For March

My plan for March is to focus on finishing an update to my Social Network product. This product has tons of room for improvement and features, so I'm quite excited to build on the foundation of the product that I produced late last year. I've gotten a lot of good feedback from users too, so I'll be using their ideas to help make the product better too.

I won't have too many articles out for the blog in March as I'm going to be using my spare time to write for my Niche Site. I may work on my SEO tool a bit more and show off some screenshots to you in the next report, but I'll see how much work I actually get done on it.

March Madness is a sale that Envato are doing and 3 of my products are participating in it. We'll see if this boosts sales a bit. I feel like my current sales are at a stable level but not particularly growing, despite working on huge updates/improvements to my products.

That's all for now, peace!

Congrats! I also will turn 28 this year.
But self-employing is not a business, it's a craft. You should start to delegate some tasks to someone, to level it up. Especially with copywriting. And SEO tools. What? Are you going to build a tool everytime you need it? There are a lot of online ones. Otherwise you'll spend a lot of time reinventing the wheel.

@Rustem Gareev I definitely agree with the reinventing the wheel part. I think it's this frugal part of me that wants to create these tools I normally have to pay for but know that I could just create them myself and save myself money. Then it leads me to having ideas of launching my own version. A site I used charges $5 a month for SERP checking, and I made my own tool within a couple of days that now does it for free.

I definitely want to consider hiring more content writers for niche sites; first I want to successfully launch one myself so I know what I need and get a good overview of the requirements to make a successful one.

To get the overview, follow your competitors / niche leaders and do like them but better.
By the way, "patchesoft.com" doesn't redirect to "www.patchesoft.com" and returns "ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED" error, so fit it.
