August Income Report - 2017

This is my 15th Income Report in which I detail how much money I made online this month.

These reports are designed to show you that it is possible to make money online. I also want to use them to give myself motivation to meet targets, describe new challenges and achievements. Every month I'll post reports of my google analytics, income stats and more.

Ah, where to start.

I suppose a good place is to go back to this article I wrote for the Envato community. I had just had some really bad news given to me to do with my family and it was a massive turning point in my life. It made me realise that going through life is not as plain-sailing as I thought it was going to be and that life can be really cruel.

That was over a year ago.

A member of my family is very ill and this month we all got the news we were dreading: things are now getting worse. My whole family, me included, are devastated. We have tried to comfort each other but everything feels very raw right now. It feels hopeless.

Due to this event happening, this month was majorly disrupted. Coming back from vacation I had planned to get right back into work, get some solid hours done and be back on schedule. Well, on the first day I began work, I got the bad news.

This is really affecting me. It has been affecting me for the past year, but it's been easy to ignore knowing things haven't gotten worse. But now that they have, it's another blow.

I am the type of person who cannot just block things out whilst working. I think it's one of the challenges of working by yourself; self-motivation is one the critical skills you need to be able to do this job. All my motivation was sucked out of me this month.

The only good news was that I did manage to do something. A lot of days I had spent with my family, but when I found a bit of peace I did manage to do some work. I'm working on a new product and it's going to be a social media application. It's in its very early stages and I wanted to have a lot more done this month than what I did manage.

After this new product is finished, I'll be updating all my others. I have a huge suggestion list from clients of new features to implement, so I'm actually quite motivated to get to work on those.

My recent articles I wrote about Amazon Affiliate Sites and YouTube Affiliate are doing well in terms of bringing in organic traffic, so I'm very pleased with that. I'm going to be writing a new article soon about how to get freelance PHP jobs.

Finally, I planned a surprise birthday present for my girlfriend: a trip to New York in Christmas. It was actually really hard to feel like doing anything nice this month, but I was glad for the distraction and enjoyed seeing how happy it made her.

A big increase on last month. I had a really good end to the month for CodeCanyon sales which really helped boost sales.

I also took up some freelancing work. I find that when I'm having a crap month in terms of motivation, freelance work is easier to do. You're just following instructions and it's easier to concentrate. I'm fortunate I have this option.

Oh, and I also did well in terms of Amazon Affiliates. I'd love for this to become a bit more stable but it varies wildly from each month.

Traffic

August Traffic Report 2017

A big increase in traffic this month. Most of this is because of my tutorial articles for PHP Datatables CodeIgniter and Fullcalendar CodeIgniter now ranking even higher in SERPs. I'm starting to hit 200 hits per day, which is something I'd like to hit constantly before the year is out.

Hopefully some of my new articles can start ranking too and that would help bring in some extra traffic too.

Time

Time Report 2017

Not much to say here. Time was disrupted massively due to my family crisis. I'm very frustrated with not being able to work at the minute. It just feels like its one thing after another that's causing me to not work.

Plans for September

Work. All I want to do in this month is have a good working month. If I don't hit at least 100+ hours I'll be disappointed. I know I'm still going to have moments this month when things get tough but I'm determined to put in the hours. I don't want to let anything stop me.

My main priority is my new product. I very much doubt it will get finished in September, there's an awful amount of work that needs to be done and I have a huge feature list to complete. Hopefully I'll have some screenshots to show off at the end though.

I have one new idea for an article I want to write, so we will see if I can get that done. Other than that I'll probably use my spare time to do some research into some new topics.
