Set in the fantasy world of Tyria, Guild Wars II is an massive multiplayer role playing game in which players create a character with a multitude of races and classes to choose from. Players follow a story set 250 years after the original Guild Wars, which tasks them with reuniting members of the guild Destiny's Edge. The game features many improvements over the original Guild Wars, which was released in 2005, including updated graphics, real-time 3d environments and better character progression systems.
Originally released in 2012, Guild Wars II was unique in the sense that it did not charge a subscription fee to play, but rather a single one-off payment was needed. In 2015, the base game became free-to-play but you can still purchase expansion packs which add additional content to the game, such as new professions, areas and items. Guild Wars II has sold over 5,000,000 copies and peaked with over 460,000 concurrent users playing it at it's height. The game is developed by ArenaNet and has to be purchased through the Guild Wars II website.
Guild Wars II has a minimum recommend system requirements page, which states in order to run the game you don't need a super-powerful laptop to run it. However, like most minimum requirements, you'll notice lag and reduced framerate if you play on a machine with these settings. Ideally, you want to go for something much better than these requirements, with a decent graphics card and plenty of RAM for long gaming sessions. The minimum system requirements are:
|Minimum System Requirements|
|OS||Windows 7 or better (64 bit only)|
|CPU||Intel® Core 2 Quad 2.4 GHz / Core i3 / AMD Athlon 64 X2 or better|
|Graphics||NVIDIA GeForce 8800GTS / ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT / Intel Iris 5100 or better|
