Why having the best laptop for Fortnite matters?
If you're into the Fortnite competitive scene, or simply want to have an advantage over your opponents, having the best laptop to run the game can help in ways you've never known.
Fortnite is a game which requires good reactions, a good sense of map control and being able to see even in the tiniest of details on screen. A player pops up some 500 yards away? You'll want to be able to see that detail so you can prepare yourself for a fight or get the jump on them. It'll also help you with aiming using Fortnite Weapons as the detail will be that much clearer.
A decent laptop will let you see and run the game at good settings, but having the best laptop means you'll run flawlessly. When you compete against other players who aren't running the best hardware, you get a slight advantage over them.
All the pros use top end computers to run Fortnite, including having the latest graphics cards, great low-lag latency monitors and fast CPUs. Ninja, one of the most popular streamers on Twitch, has a setup which runs the latest dedicated hardware to make sure he maintains his competitive advantage.
It's why you don't see Fortnite Pros play on consoles, because the consoles use inferior hardware that's almost 5 years outdated (PS4 came out in 2013)! When you have a powerful machine it make sures the game run at it's full potential. If you're constantly dropping frames, it means when you react with a shotgun against another player who has a better machine, they'll have the advantage due to less latency.
Want to see what we mean? Try playing Fortnite on Nintendo Switch. This game is capped at 30 FPS and it's noticable. Trying to react to other players is a lot harder and if you're ever put into a mixed cross-play lobby, you'll be at a massive disadvantage.

FAQ for Fortnite Laptops
What are the alternatives to playing Fortnite on a laptop?
You can play Fortnite on most platforms: PC, Mac, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One. If all you want to do is play Fortnite, it might be cheaper to go with one of the other platforms to play.
Should I play Fortnite on a laptop or PC?
A PC is generally more powerful than a laptop. They also don't get over-heated quite as quickly as laptops due to the components being designed not to fit inside a tight space. That being said, a laptop can play Fortnite quite well if it has some of the best hardware. If you're on a cheaper budget, a computer may be better for you since a cheaper computer will run Fortnite better than a cheaper laptop. Check out the Best Computers for Fortnite page to see what you can get for your money.
Will I Win More Games on PC than on Console?
This will depend entirely on your skill level. A new player will find it easier to use consoles at first, but once your skill level increases, moving onto PC will allow you to be more precise. Using mouse+keyboard is a lot better for aiming and building than using a controller. That being said, some of the Fortnite Pros use a controller to compete- so it can be done. Check out Nickmercs videos and see how good his level of play is:
Is it worth investing in a good laptop for Fortnite?
It depends. If you're just looking to play Fortnite, I recommend not shelling out $1000 plus dollas. But if you're planning on using your laptop for other things too, it can be worth it. For someone who spends upwards of 10 hours a day on my laptop, having a powerful machine is a must. Powerful laptops will also last longer in terms of allowing you to play the best games at the best settings longer. With games pushing 4k capabilities the landscape is ever changing and the requirements are always going up. Personally, if you have the budget, I'd recommend buying a computer for Fortnite instead as those machines are designed to run intensive reactionary games like first-person shooters.
Why is Fortnite so popular?
It's a combination of many things. One, it is a free to play game- anyone can pick up the game and start playing immediately. Two, the optional micro-transactions in the game do no give any advantages over players who don't spend real life money; they are mostly all cosmetic items such as player skins, backgrounds, emotes and other cool extras. Three, the game is constantly updated. The game goes through seasons where new additions to the game are added to keep things fresh; with the latest Halloween Update, players can no encounter zombies on the map. They are also constantly adding new weapons to keep the Fortnite Meta ever-changing and preventing it from going stale. Four, the cute art style is very popular with younger audiences and so it helps bring in millions of players who play it just for the way it looks.
Can I run fortnite on 4gb RAM?
Just about. 4GB is the games minimum recommended specs, but it recommends having at least 8GB so you're not running into any issues. With 4GB, you'll have to constantly be restarting your laptop/computer to refresh the game as it will start to get laggy.
What computer is best for fortnite?
One that has a dedicated graphics card, preferably the GTX 1000 series, such as a 1060. The best players use the latest hardware, which is currently the GTX 1080 TI. In the coming months, the new RTX 2000 series will be released which are going to give big improvements on performance. 8-16 GB of RAM is a good amount to have and a decent CPU such as i7 6 core processors will be good for multi-tasking.
What kind of laptop do I need for Streaming and Playing Fortnite?
Streaming on Twitch requires you to have a very high-end machine. The reason is streaming requires a lot of processing power and when you run two heavy intensive applications at the same time (such as OBS Studio) and Fortnite, your computer is going to be running at it's max settings. You're going to need a lot of RAM for long streaming session and if you're recording videos for YouTube, you'll want a harddrive with at least 1 TB of space to store videos as the size of them can be quite big.
Does fortnite work on laptop?
Of course. Fortnite can run on most pieces of hardware these days- there's even mobile versions for your iPhone and Android. However, for the best experience, you'll want a computer/laptop that has really good hardware. Games which require a constant 60 FPS in multiplayer tend to need the latest graphics cards, lots of ram and CPU due to the amount of processing the game does. In Fortnite, if you've ever landed at Tilted Towers, you'll notice the game can lag a little because of all the action going on. With a powerful machine, this becomes less noticable because it can handle all the rendering a lot faster, making it easier for you to get kills!
Do you need Playstation Plus to play fortnite?
No, you do not. PlayStation free to play games do not require PlayStation Plus to use the multiplayer features. Xbox, on the other hand, does require Xbox Gold. However, if you do get PlayStation Plus, you get a free exclusive skin for playing in Fortnite.
What is the best laptop for fortnite?
Right now, I recommend getting a laptop that has a dedicated graphics card. Most laptops aren't designed to run intensive games and they often can get very hot if they are not properly ventilated (such as having it sat on your lap rather than a flat surface). However, gaming laptops are designed specifically for just that: gaming. With a dedicated graphics card, the laptop's CPU is under less pressure and can keep cooler whilst the graphics card does all the work, keeping the game running at a high setting.
Can you play fortnite on a Chromebook?
A Chromebook is a light laptop that runs on a version of Linux (Chrome OS) and as such, it doesn't have the power to run intensive games such as Fortnite Battle Royale. A Chromebook is best used for simple activities used in the Google's web browser Chrome, like email and surfing the web.
Do you need a good computer for fortnite?
Not necessarily. Fortnite has an in-game settings system which allows you to lower the graphics quality in order for it to run on slower computers. That being said, playing Fortnite on lower settings can be frustrating. Character models become more pixelated and you'll encounter lots of lag and frames-per-second drops. This will harm your chances of winning a battle royale game, because competing against other players with faster and powerful machines will be able to take advantage of your slow ability to react. There are halfway houses though; you can get a decent computer that can run the game fairly well. Or if you have the money, you can buy an expensive beast of a machine and run the game on ultra settings.
