MapleStory Legion Guide

MapleStory Legion is a system that takes into account all the levels of all the characters on your MapleStory Account, giving you stat bonuses in return. The aim of this system is to incentivise you to play multiple characters and considering there are over 40 different MapleStory job types, the Legion system means any kind of leveling doesn't go to waste. The stats you get from Legion are very much a huge bonus in terms of damage your character can do and as your Legion level increases, it makes it a lot easier to start new characters. This guide will go over the entire Legion system and the benefits it provides.

MapleStory Legion Introduction

The MapleStory Legion system was introduced in patch V.186 to replace the old character card system. The old character card system allowed to you to get certain stat bonuses for leveling a select number of characters and it was limited to only 9 characters. The Legion System completely replaces it and encompasses every character you make. All the levels of all the characters you've ever made on your account are combined into a Legion Level. This Legion Level unlocks various benefits as it grows, including stat bonuses, assigning characters to your Legion Grid and boosting the amount of Legion Coins you can earn.

You can unlock the Legion system when you hit 500 cumulative levels on your account.

A character's level only counts towards the Legion level when it hits level 60+.

Once unlocked, you can access the Legion Grid from the Menu system. Select Manage Legion in Towns to open up the Legion Grid.

Maple Legion Grid

The Legion Grid is your home for managing all your Legion Characters and stat bonuses. The grid in the middle of the UI is called your Legion Board and you can place character blocks on it to earn bonuses. These blocks must be assigned side-by-side (i.e. connected). The size of a character's block depends on it's level. When you assign a character to the Legion Grid, you get 2 different bonuses.

Grid bonuses are stat bonuses which are found on the grid. You can see from the screenshot above that you can get things like Buff Duration, Boss Damage, Flat Stat Increases for Luk, Critical Damage and more.

The other bonus you get are Member Bonuses. These bonuses are based on the character's class and level. For example, a Level 140 Phantom gives +3% Mesos obtained. These member bonuses change at level 60/100/140/200/250.

Your Legion Grid is limited to how many members it can assign based on your total cumulative level. You can see from the screenshot above that I can assign 21 different character blocks to my grid because my Legion Level is 4916. When I hit 5000, I will unlock more slots to assign more members to my grid. Every 500 levels you unlock more slots.

The actual Legion Grid also expands as you hit more Legion Levels. At level 6000, the whole Legion grid is unlocked. When you first start out at level 500, you won't have access to various grid bonuses like Critical Damage and Buff Duration until you level up some more.

You'll also notice that the UI also shows how many Legion Coins you have. Legion Coins can be spent in the Legion Coin Shop, which includes special coupons like double EXP, double drop, +50% mesos obtained and other useful coupons. The Legion coins are earned passively; you don't have to do anything to earn them other than collect them by clicking the Start Raid button. The amount of coins you earn is dependent on how many characters you have assigned to your grid and how much Legion Raid Power you have. See the Legion Coins Calculator below.

Legion Ranks

Once you hit 500 Legion levels, you'll begin at the very basic rank of Nameless Legion Rank I. For every 500 Legion Levels, you'll be able to rank up your Legion. Each rank up expands the Legion Grid and allows you to assign more character's to your grid board. Below are the following Legion Ranks:

Legion Ranks

Rank Legion Levels Members Assigned
Nameless Legion Rank I 500 9
Nameless Legion Rank II 1000 10
Nameless Legion Rank III 1500 11
Nameless Legion Rank IV 2000 12

Legendary Legion Rank II 8500 37
Legendary Legion Rank III 9000 38
Legendary Legion Rank IV 9500 39

As you can see, each time you move up to the next big rank up (Nameless -> Renowned) you gain an extra 5 additional members. The max Legion Level is 10,000, which is the equavalent of 40 different level 250 characters.

You can also see the MapleStory GMS Rankings to see who has the most Legion Levels in your world.

Legion Coins

Legion CoinLegion CoinLegion CoinLegion CoinLegion Coin

Legion Coins are a passive bonus you earn from having leveled your Legion Characters. The rate at which you earn coins is based on you Legion Raid Power, which you can see in the Legion Board UI. You can increase the raid power by two ways:

  • Leveling your character
  • Equipping Items with high Star Forced items

You can see each individual member's power underneath their character's card in the Legion Board UI. An average level 140 character will give you +1,933,299 Legion Raid Power. An average level 70 character will give you +184,000 Legion Raid Power.

Only characters that are assigned to the Legion Grid increase your Legion Raid Power.

You receive 1 Legion Coin per 1 Billion Damage dealt in the Legion Raid. You average around 1 Legion Coin per 1,100,000 Legion Raid Power per 24/hours. So if you had 18,142,652 Legion Raid Power you would earn around 16 Legion Coins a day.

Legion CoinNPC Dame AppropriationLegion Coin

You can also earn up to 30 Legion Coins per day by doing 2 daily quests. You can obtain these quests from the Legion NPC Dame Appropriation (found in most major towns). The two quests require you to kill mobs in the Legion Raid system:

  • Kill 100 Welps in the Legion Raid System (+10 Legion Coins)
  • Kill 20 Golden Wyverns in the Legion Raid System (+20 Legion Coins)

You can collect your Legion Coins that you earn passively by clicking the Start Raid button in the Legion Menu UI. You can only store a limit amount of coins until you reach a limit, so you will need to collect them at least once a week before they fill up (depending on how fast you earn Legion Coins).

Your Legion Coins are shared amongst all characters (so you don't need to transfer them between characters).

Legion Shop Items

The Legion Shop has many useful items you can purchase with your Legion Coins. The shop items have a limited stock that resets weekly but usually you only max out the purchase of these items when you have a really high Legion Raid Power.

Maple Lab Server

The Maple Lab Server was a special event that allowed players to play a hardcore version of MapleStory, where if you died, your whole character was deleted and you would have to start over again. As a reward for playing this special server, you would be able to obtain special Legion Blocks for your Legion Grid that gave bonuses.

There were two lab blocks up for grabs:

  • Legion Block
  • Enhanced Legion Block

The power of your the Legion Block was based on what level your character made it to in the Lab Server when it ended. The bonuses were an increase in Weapon and Magic Attack.

Legion Block:

  • The level of the Legion Block is based off the maximum level your character reaches in Lab Server.
    • At Lv. 60: Grants Weapon ATT/Magic ATT +5
    • At Lv. 100: Grants Weapon ATT/Magic ATT +10
    • At Lv. 140: Grants Weapon ATT/Magic ATT +15
    • At Lv. 150: Grants Weapon ATT/Magic ATT +20
    • At Lv. 250: Grants Weapon ATT/Magic ATT +25

Enhanced Legion Block

  • The level of the Enhanced Legion Block is based off the maximum level your character reaches in Lab Server.
    • At Lv. 60: Grants Weapon ATT/Magic ATT +7
    • At Lv. 100: Grants Weapon ATT/Magic ATT +14
    • At Lv. 140: Grants Weapon ATT/Magic ATT +21
    • At Lv. 150: Grants Weapon ATT/Magic ATT +28
    • At Lv. 250: Grants Weapon ATT/Magic ATT +35

Unfortunately the Legion Lab Server was a limited time even and is no longer available until MapleStory decides to bring it back. It first occured in August 2018 and hasn't been seen since!
